In our business a lot happens in a month so stopping to look back, think and write a summary of a whole year means a walk down memory lane which contains plenty of sights. It’s been an extremely positive year for Arc, undoubtedly our best yet. I’ve grouped my take on 2015 into People, Technology and approach, Venues and Events and Recognition.
Probably the thing I like the most about our business and our industry; 2015 brought us into contact with some brilliant people:
We talked careers and part-time jobs at open days up and down the country. Prospective candidates were often steered towards our fantastic industry but we equally enjoyed giving honest advice and sharing our own stories with those who had other aspirations.
Many outstanding Arc staff received ‘worker of the month’ awards and other similar merit-based rewards from our clients. Our core team members clocked several years’ service for Arc to whom we are forever grateful. Another rewarding sight was seeing many entry level new starters develop through to Prestige; some then on to supervisors; some then on to management level. Several key players even moved into the industry permanently by accepting full-time positions with our clients or with Arc.
Once again our full-time team grew with new additions bringing valuable experience and enthusiasm. Our team now has a great balance of energy and wisdom.
We are increasingly intertwined with our clients’ operations and 2015 saw us working in partnership with several new and many existing people and businesses to improve their service and our offering.
Arc is very much a people business and the candidates, staff, office team and clients we worked with last year were remarkable.
Technology and approach:
A big step forward for us last year was the introduction of improved technology to develop our systems and approach:
The new website was a welcome addition and made it easier for candidates and clients to understand and contact our business. I’m still to blame for the music on the video but I like it.
Our upgraded online recruitment software now allows staff to view and apply for shifts much more efficiently at a time which is convenient for them. This software has also given head office increased visibility and control over the entire operation across the country.
The decision to sharpen our recruitment process by changing the focus from induction to assessment has been better for candidates, Arc and clients alike. We now learn a lot more about our candidates, efficiently top-up any knowledge gaps, and complete the whole process much faster (with no paper!)
Venues and events:
On reflection, the venues and events which we were involved with in 2015 really spoilt us: In football, we were there through thick and thin from Blackburn to Chelsea. In racing, we accommodated customers in betting and hospitality from Goodwood to Ripon. At festivals, we experienced all varieties from Dance to Oysters! During concerts, our staff moved to Madonna at Manchester’s MEN and liaised for the Libertines at London’s O2. Dinners we served by Arc teams in formats from 1500 cover corporate sit-downs to intimate boutique hotel weddings. At the UK’s top Attractions, we welcomed customers everywhere from Blackpool Pleasure Beach to Gulliver’s Kingdom. For 2015’s biggest world sporting event, Team Arc looked after young, old and royal supporters from all nations in all corners of the UK from Elland Road to the home of English Rugby. The year was completed by a record Christmas with series of Christmas parties catered for in no fewer than 9 separate UK locations from Newcastle to Cardiff.
In 2015, Arc were voted in the top 3 employment businesses in Liverpool. Not bad for a hospitality, catering and betting specialist. Michael’s local celebrity status climbed a couple of letters with another appearance in the Liverpool Echo although he’s not the type to let it go to his head. I am.
Whilst it’s nice to be recognised externally, Michael and I are most proud of our team for exceeding all internal targets for the calendar year and the effort, positivity and commitment to the business which was demonstrated by our whole team. Our company values of We’re honest, We care, We deliver held true throughout the year and we have strengthened our brand and gained market share in entry level and prestige hospitality, retail catering, bar, chefs, betting and themed attractions.
