Interview and Application Process
The Interview and Application process is made up of 4 different stages; summarised below, with useful hints to help you get through each stage.
Stage 1 The Application
Application forms can be downloaded from the website or you can simply pop into one of our offices and fill one in.
What you write on the application form is how you will be perceived by the Arc team before we meet you. Half-hearted attempts are often put to the bottom of the pile as it suggests to us that you can't be bothered. Our top tips for the best application forms are:
- Keep it neat
- Make it legible
- Most importantly fill it in properly, honestly and fill it in WELL
Stage 2 The interview
It sounds scary we know but don't worry, we just want to get to know you! We like to see eager, friendly and enthusiastic people who are more than happy to share with us what they like to get up to.
During the interview we want to find out whether you are suitable for the roles we have at Arc. Although the interview doesn't last too long, it is still enough time for us to gain an invaluable first impression.
What you say, how you say it and how you look is imperative in helping us decide whether you go through to the next stage.
Our top tips are:
- Show you are punctual by turning up on time
- Show you care by looking presentable
- Show you are happy to be there by smiling
- Show you are confident by making eye contact
After the interview, we will then make the decision about whether you are through to the next stage.
If you have made it through then we look forward to seeing you in our Induction.
Stage 3 Induction
The induction is a chance for you to enhance our impressions of you. This is an opportunity for you to show off what you know about Arc and the hospitality industry. You will be asked to fill out 4 tests:
- Bar Service
- Food Service
- Food Hygiene
- Psychometric - verbal, numerical and fluid intelligence!
These tests just give us more of a feel for what you know, but don't fret if you don't know anything, try to use your initiative and fill out each form to the best of your abilities. Filling in something is better than nothing.
After the tests one of our managers will go through an induction briefing with you. This is a chance for you to listen and ask questions on anything to do with the following:
- Health and Safety, Security and Emergency Procedures
- Basic Food Hygiene
- Manual Handling
- Making an Impression
- Operational Information
- Our Expectations
The induction lasts around 2.5 hours. Apart from the above 4 tests and induction briefing, we also ask you to fill in a bank details form, a contract for services, tax form and health and safety declaration. It is best for us if you bring your bank and any tax information with you on the day.
Our top tips in this stage are:
- Neat writing suggests to us that you take pride in creating a good impression and we like that at Arc
- Don't be shy to ask a question - even if you think it is silly, the chances are someone else in the room would also like to know the answer to your question
- Make sure that you are familiar with our website and social media sites

Wahay you have made it to the final stage!! We want you to get comfortable with all the minimum requirements expected on shift. These include:

Uniform
You are turning up to work in some top notch places serving top notch food and drinks to some top notch people, so looking smart is essential and it's easy to get it wrong! So, for a few tips on how to get it right, simply follow our easy head to toe guide.
- Hair- if it's long then tie it back - there is nothing worse than finding a hair in your grub.
- Face- washed please. Make up to a minimum, we don't want to scare off any clients do we?
- Shirts- the majority of shifts require either a black or a white shirt. We suggest you buy ones which button to the top, you never know, you may have to wear a tie. Make sure all shirts have a long sleeve- it's a good way of hiding any tattoos
- Trousers- whether you are a boy or a girl you will be required to wear a pair of plain black trousers, no jeans or pinstripes please! Black all the way. Make sure they are clean and fit properly.
- Socks- plain black please, make sure they are clean. Cheesy feet are a NO NO!
- Shoes- Shoes have to be plain black. Make sure they are smart and comfortable. Our clients hate trainers and pumps, so make sure you take this into account.
- Nails- nail varnish no matter how subtle cannot be worn, for health and safety reasons.
- Jewellery- Golden Rule, if you are unsure then just ask. Most clients specify their own rules on jewellery and you will often be informed of these before you start a shift but the safest option is to avoid wearing any.
